What is a rigid plastic removable denture and what are its parts?
A rigid plastic removable denture is a denture with a rigid plastic base that attaches to the gums, with artificial teeth attached to the base. You remove and reinsert it yourself as needed. Unlike porcelain crowns or implants (posts implanted into the jawbone), this denture is not fixed in the mouth.
A rigid plastic denture consists of three parts:
-
Base: The plastic base that helps the denture stay in the mouth. There are two options: rigid plastic and reinforced plastic.
-
Artificial teeth: The teeth attached to the base. You can choose Japanese, American, or composite (teeth made from synthetic resin).
-
Metal clasps: These are added when a more secure attachment point is needed. Both rigid and reinforced plastic bases can have clasps added.
Because the base and teeth are chosen separately, the price is also separate. The cost below will show this. Before that, a question many people are concerned about is whether this denture is right for them.
Who should choose rigid resin dentures?
Rough resin dentures are suitable for people who have lost many teeth or all teeth in one jaw and need a simple, economical solution. For cases of complete jaw loss, Dental Fam recommends rigid resin or reinforced resin, not flexible resin or framework dentures.
However, there are cases where the dentist will consider other options:
-
If there are still strong supporting teeth and high stability is needed: Framework dentures are the preferred option because they cause less pain and discomfort, unlike rigid or reinforced resin dentures. You can find more information in the article on removable framework dentures.
-
If there are few missing teeth and aesthetics are important, minimizing visible clasps: Flexible resin is more suitable. Detailed information can be found in the article on the cost of flexible resin removable dentures.
-
If there is significant bone loss in the jaw, especially the lower jaw, making dentures difficult to attach: The dentist may advise adding dental implants as a support for the denture.
If the plastic base suits you, the next step is to choose between rigid or reinforced plastic.
How are rigid plastics and reinforced plastics different?
Reinforced plastics are stronger than regular rigid plastics, so when comparing only these two types, doctors prefer reinforced plastics, while rigid plastics are the simplest and most economical option.
| Criteria | Rough Plastic | Reinforced Plastic | |
| Base Price | Free | 1,000,000 VND | |
| Strength | Regular Plastic | Higher than regular plastic Normally | |
| Suitable | For multiple tooth loss or complete tooth loss, a simple, economical solution is needed. | Requires a higher-strength plastic base, recommended for complete tooth loss. | |
| Add metal clasps. | Received | Received |
Now that you know how to choose the right base, let's look at what rigid dentures offer and what the requirements are for daily use.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Rigid Dentures
The biggest advantage of rigid dentures is their low cost, while the main limitation is their stability and chewing ability, which are not as good as fixed dentures.
Advantages:
-
Lowest Cost: The rigid denture base is free; you only pay for the dentures.
-
No Surgery or Tooth Grinding Required: The dentures do not invade the jawbone, making them suitable for older adults or those with weak health.
-
Advantages: Clasps can be added, repaired, and re-cushioned:** Unlike flexible dentures, which cannot have clasps added and are almost impossible to repair.
Limitations:
-
Less stable than a fixed denture when there are still strong supporting teeth: Therefore, in cases where there are still good supporting teeth, dentists usually prefer a fixed denture.
-
Lower dentures may become loose or shift when chewing: Upper dentures have a wider grip and therefore usually hold better.
-
Requires adjustment time: In the first few days, you may feel discomfort and unfamiliarity with pronunciation.
-
Jawbone continues to resorb over time: Because there are no tooth roots or implants to stimulate bone, the dentures may gradually loosen.
-
Requires removal and cleaning after each meal and before sleeping: You can see how to do this in the article on how to clean dentures.

Cost of Removable Hard Resin Dentures at Dental Fam
Hard resin dentures have a free base, so the total cost is equal to the price of the dentures multiplied by the number of teeth: from 6,000,000 VND for a 12-tooth Japanese denture to 18,000,000 VND for a 12-tooth composite denture. If you choose a reinforced resin base, add 1,000,000 VND.
A full denture usually consists of 12 to 14 teeth. The table below is for 12 teeth; you can add the price per tooth if you need 14 teeth:
| Type of tooth | Price per tooth | Warranty | 12-tooth denture, hard resin base | 12-tooth denture, reinforced resin base |
| Japanese teeth | 500,000 VND | 6 months | 6,000,000 VND | 7,000,000 VND |
| American Teeth | 800,000 VND | 1 year | 9,600,000 VND | 10,600,000 VND |
| Composite Teeth | 1,500,000 VND | 3 years | 18,000,000 VND | 19,000,000 VND |
This cost is all-inclusive, with no additional charges, including follow-up appointments for adjustments. The warranty covers the entire denture in case of technical issues, but does not cover damage caused by personal factors such as accidents, dropping, or being stepped on. Pre-dental treatment, such as tooth extraction or gum disease treatment, is charged separately. The consultation fee is 100,000 VND, waived if you get dentures made immediately. Currently, the clinic does not offer installment payments for removable dentures.
The full pricing for a full denture is in the article on full denture prices, and the most durable type of denture is explained in more detail in the article on composite removable dentures.
The initial price is clear; after a period of use, you may need adjustments or repairs to the dentures.
After completion, can hard plastic dentures be repaired, re-inserted, or have clasps added?
Hard plastic dentures can be repaired, re-inserted, or have metal clasps added or re-inserted if loose, at a cost starting from 1,000,000 VND. Over time, the plastic may wear down, discolor, or break, so you should be aware of these issues beforehand.
| Situation | Service | Price |
| Broken, cracked, chipped dentures | Dental repair/repair | 1,000,000 VND per denture |
| Need additional attachment points, or broken old clasps need replacing | Add metal clasps | 1,000,000 VND per clasp |
| Loose dentures due to bone and gum resorption | Dental Cushions | 1,000,000 VND per denture |
| Loose dentures, need a softer cushion for sensitive gums | Soft Denture Cushions | 2,000,000 VND per denture |
Add metal clasps for hard and reinforced resin bases. You don't have to get a new denture every time there's a problem. Warranty period depends on the type of denture you choose, from 6 months to 3 years.

Frequently Asked Questions about Removable Hard Resin Dentures
Can I use hard resin dentures if I've lost one or several teeth?
Yes, the hard resin base is still free whether you've lost one tooth or many. However, if you still have supporting teeth, the dentist prefers a framework denture because it's more stable. Dental Fam usually doesn't accept single molars because the denture is less stable and can easily lead you to mistakenly believe you can chew, while the denture is primarily for filling the gap left by missing teeth. You can refer to the article on partial removable dentures.
How long does it take to make a hard resin denture?
If everything goes smoothly, the denture will be completed in about 3 appointments within a week. Thanks to our in-house lab (denture fabrication room right at the clinic), the fastest possible time is only 2 hours if needed urgently, but you will usually be scheduled for the next day. Details of each appointment can be found in the article on how long removable dentures take.
Removable dentures made of rigid resin are suitable when you have lost many teeth or all your teeth and need a simple, cost-effective solution. At Dental Fam, the rigid resin base is free, while a stronger, more durable resin base costs an additional 1,000,000 VND. Artificial teeth range from 500,000 VND to 1,500,000 VND per tooth, so a 12-tooth denture costs from 6,000,000 VND to 19,000,000 VND, including adjustments. If you still have stable supporting teeth, the dentist will prioritize a framework denture.
All dentists at Dental Fam can perform removable denture fabrication. This article is based on the current price list and consultations with the clinic's dentists. You can view an overview of the services on the removable denture page.
To schedule an appointment for a consultation and advice on the appropriate denture base, you can book an appointment at Dental Fam. The 100,000 VND consultation fee is waived if you proceed with the denture immediately.
