What is growth orthodontics?
Growth orthodontics, also known as interceptive or early orthodontics, gently guides your child's jaw and facial development while they are still growing. By using removable or fixed appliances at the right age, we can correct problems early and often reduce or eliminate the need for braces later.
When your child might need it
- Crowded or crooked baby and mixed teeth between ages 6-10
- A narrow upper jaw, crossbite, or open bite
- Mouth breathing, snoring, or tongue-thrust habits
- A noticeable underbite or overbite during growth spurts
How it works
- A friendly evaluation with photos, scans, and a panoramic X-ray
- A custom plan tailored to your child's growth stage
- An appliance (expander, myofunctional trainer, or partial braces) is fitted
- Short, fun follow-ups every 4-8 weeks to check progress
Benefits
- Uses your child's natural growth to shape a healthier smile
- Often shortens or removes the need for full braces later
- Improves breathing, sleep, and chewing
- Boosts self-esteem during important social years
What to expect
The first appliance fitting takes about 30-45 minutes and is completely painless. Most kids adjust within a week, and our team teaches your child how to insert, remove, and clean the device with confidence.
Recovery & aftercare
Mild pressure or speech changes for a few days are normal as the mouth adapts. Daily cleaning of the appliance and gentle brushing around it keeps everything fresh and on track.
A note for parents
Consistency matters more than perfection - simply remind your child to wear the appliance as instructed and celebrate small milestones. Your encouragement turns orthodontics into a shared adventure rather than a chore.
